Maintaining Your Wood Floors
Wood flooring increasingly adds to a home's market value in comparison to carpet or tile. Wood flooring can last for years and years with minimal care and maintenance.
Care Instructions for Water-based finishes:
• Wait 4-6 hours before walking on floors with stocking feet, after 24 hours for shoes.
• Let 48 hours pass before placing furniture on floor or allowing pets on floor.
• Do not drag furniture across floors or roll refrigerator or heavy appliances on floors without sufficient protection.
• Do not use water on floors for 1 week.
• Have your floors buffed and re-coated every 2-5 years as needed.
• Allow 1 week before placing rugs on floor. (We recommend rotating position of rugs for the first 6 months).
Care Instructions for Polyurethane finishes:
• Wait 10-12 hours before walking on floors with stocking feet and after 24 hours for shoes.
• Let 72 hours pass before placing furniture on floor or allowing pets on floor.
• Do not use water on floors for 1 week.
• Have your floors buffed and re-coated every 2-5 years as needed.
• Allow 1 week to pass before placing rugs, carpets or area rugs on floor. (We recommend rotating position of rugs for the first 6 months).
Preventive Maintenance - Rugs
Use dirt-trapping, walk-off mats at all exterior doors to help prevent dirt, grit and sand from getting inside on your floors. Use throw rugs and small area rugs inside the entrances and at sink areas to help minimize dirt and water. Dirt and grit are your floor's worst enemy!
Preventive Maintenance - Furniture Protectors
We recommend placing EZ-Glides (small Berber carpet buttons) on the base of all legs of your furniture. EZ-Glides can be purchased through Radaj Custom Floors and are available in 8 sizes. The glides allow furniture to be moved easily without scuffing the floor. Glides should be cleaned periodically so that dirt and grit does not collect on them. Replace guides as needed. Preventive Maintenance - High Heels
Keep high heels on shoes or boots in good repair. Heels that have worn down or lost protective caps, exposing the steel support rod in the heel, will dent any floor surface.
